Our client is a Californian company which enjoys world leadership in its field of software for highly technical, specialised applications. It has grown by promoting staff from within, particularly in its international operations. Engineers became salesmen, good salesmen became sales managers, and good sales managers became struggling general managers.
Two Penrhyn International partners (one in California, one in Europe) had been consultants to the CEO for some years. He sought their help to upgrade standards in two key areas of international operations. It was decided to recruit a new International Sales Director at European level, and a new country General Manager in Germany.

To have an impact on corporate results in the short term these new business streams had to produce significant revenues and profits very rapidly.
